Sunway TES graduates 400 more accountants, meeting Malaysia’s critical demand

A cohort of 331 ACCA students and 68 ICAEW chartered accountants has graduated from Sunway TES Centre for Accountancy Excellence (CAE) today, marking yet another significant contribution to the pool of accountants essential for Malaysia’s economic growth.

Despite the government’s 2010 target of 60,000 accountants by 2020, recent data from the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA) registry indicates a shortfall, with fewer than 40,000 registered as of 2023.

Sunway TES CAE, a distinguished 21-year platinum training provider, has firmly established itself as the standard-bearer in imparting professional accountancy qualifications such as ACCA and ICAEW.

Founded by Professor Teo Ee Sing, Executive Director of Sunway College Kuala Lumpur Sunway TES CAE a pivotal entity within the esteemed Sunway Education Group, has produced 8,370 ACCA and 1,463 ICAEW graduates over the years, cementing its indispensable role in shaping the landscape of professional accountancy training in the nation.

The auspicious Sunway TES CAE’s 45th graduation ceremony was graced by Nurul A’in Abdul Latif, Executive Chair and Assurance Partner at PwC Malaysia, who delivered a distinguished address.

Also present was Professor Dato’ Dr. Elizabeth Lee, CEO of Sunway Education Group and Ibrahim Sani, CEO of Yayasan Peneraju Pendikan Bumiputera. Yayasan Peneraju offers scholarships for professional accountancy programs, with many of its students receiving training at Sunway TES.

While Sunway TES is renowned for nurturing some of the most proficient accounting graduates in Malaysia, it has also garnered international acclaim for cultivating award-winning talent, with 10 world Top Affiliates and 246 World Prize Winners ACCA and 39 world prize laureates  and 13 Overall Order of Merit for ICAEW.

This year’s achievers include Nicole Teng Lei See, who secured the 2nd ACCA Malaysia Top Affiliate , also ranking 11th worldwide. Ling Yoke Qi clinched the 3rd position in Malaysia and 16th globally. Meanwhile, in the realm of ICAEW, Siti Sarah Lutpi attained 1st place for professional level and the distinguished Knox Prize.

As the nation accelerates its economic agenda, the demand for proficient professionals intensifies, aligning with increased investments and foreign direct inflows.

Among the distinguished ACCA and ICAEW members are notable figures such as Johari Ghani, Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities; Tony Fernandes, CEO and co-founder of AirAsia; Azman Mokhtar, former CEO of Khazanah Nasional; Che Khalib Mohamad Noh, managing director of MMC; Wahid Omar, chairman of Bursa Malaysia; Khalid Ahmad former executive chairman of MRCB; Hassan Marican, former CEO of Petronas and current economic advisor to the Prime Minister and Tengku Taufik, CEO of Petronas.

While the scarcity of accountancy professionals persists in Malaysia, it presents a wealth of opportunities for aspiring accountants, promising substantial career growth prospects owing to its acute demand.
