Kolej Tuanku Ja’afar (KTJ), a leading international school in Malaysia, has once again demonstrated its excellence in education as its students receive an array of offers from some of the world’s most prestigious universities. This year, the students have outdone themselves, securing seven coveted offers from Oxbridge, among others, showcasing KTJ‘s commitment and impact in providing a top-tier education that opens doors to global opportunities.

Four KTJ students have been offered places at the University of Cambridge for degrees in Engineering, Natural Sciences, Psychology, and Maths, while three others have received offers from the University of Oxford for English Literature, History, and Law.

The success of KTJ students extends across the Atlantic, with early offers from Cornell University, an Ivy League institution, and New York University (NYU) in the United States, along with three offers from the University of Toronto in Canada. Closer to home, a Sixth Form student has been awarded a full scholarship to study Economics at both the University of Hong Kong (HKU) and The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), ranked 26th and 60th in the world respectively (2024 QS World University Rankings).

“We are delighted with the university offers our Sixth Form students have received so far,” said Emma Davidson, Head of KTJ Sixth Form, praising the students’ achievements. “Our students have worked incredibly hard and are supported by a dedicated and experienced faculty who invest many hours into admissions tests and interview preparation,” says Ms. Emma. KTJ does its best to fully support the Sixth Form.

The KTJ Sixth Form Team has been strategically assembled to provide targeted, high-level support for students as they navigate the application process to competitive universities. The team consists of specialists in topics ranging from Computer Science, Economics, Engineering, and Humanities (History and Literature) to PPE (Philosophy, Politics, and Economics), Law, and Medical Sciences. Furthermore, a Higher Education Counsellor specialises in the US and other non-UK university applications, an Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) Mentor, and a Careers Guidance Coordinator.

KTJ also emphasises a holistic education approach, encouraging students to participate in a range of co-curricular activities. Students are encouraged to explore their interests and grow their talents in clubs such as the Debate Union, Model United Nations, STEM Club, and many others to nurture their leadership skills. “As a school, we provide a holistic education which focuses on the development of the whole person, and our approach to academics and university support in KTJ Sixth Form is no different,” says Dr. Glenn Moodie, the principal of KTJ.

This year, KTJ Sixth Form students have represented Malaysia in many international competitions, such as the International Maths Olympiad and the World School Debating Championship, taking home awards such as first place in the Years 10-13 Historical Association’s Fictional Essay Writing Competition, being shortlisted for the John Locke Essay Competition, receiving the Best Advocate Prize at the Oxbridge Society Malaysia & KTJ Law Moot, and winning the Muri Award (for the top school) at the 44th Annual SEA Forensics and Debate Tournament.

Under Principal Dr. Glenn Moodie’s guidance, KTJ has achieved global recognition, ranking 55th among international schools in the HSBC Hurun Education Global High Schools list 2023 and winning awards for its boarding and education excellence.

“Our aim is to create an environment that allows intellectually-curious students to really thrive and stand out in competitive university applications and to be prepared for the next stage of their educational journey,” notes Dr. Glenn Moodie. The KTJ Community continues to create and nurture shining stars of the future with the principles laid by its principal.

KTJ invites you to explore its esteemed community, offering an education that equips students for a successful future.
